Student Scholarships

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics offers a variety of funding opportunities in the form of graduate assistantships, tuition Waivers, Departmental Scholarships, Assistantships with World Literature Today for students who choose to major or minor in one or more of the modern languages. Contact the MLLL secretary for application forms.

1. James Abbott Scholarship: Graduate students in Spanish.

2. Patricio Gimeno Memorial Award: Senior Spanish major with the highest G.P.A. in Spanish courses required for the major.

3. Poston-De La Torre Award: Spanish majors with Junior or Senior standing.

4. The Lupita Thompson Scholarship: language major in the certification program or Spanish major who has completed at least 24 hours of class work in the major language.

5. Besse Clement Loan Fund: Based on merit and financial need. All full- time graduate or undergraduate majors of French are eligible. The award amount will equal at least twice the average full-time, in-state tuition.

6. Ivar Ivask Scholarship: Students majoring in German or French.

7. Tulsa German Fund: Graduate students in German.

8. OU German Club Award: Undergraduate students with at least 2 years of German.

9. Madland-Thompson German Award: Undergraduate students with at least 2 years of German.

10. Müller-Miess Memorial Award: German major or minor with at least 2 years of German.

11. Peter Brueckner Award: German major or minor with at least 2 years of German.

12. Gerlinde Miess Thompson Memorial Scholarship in German Studies: German major or minor with at least 2 years of German.

13. Volga German Award: Students majoring in German.

14. Russian Club Award: Any applicant currently enrolled in at least the third semester of Russian and who will have continued enrollment in Russian during the scholarship tenure.

15. Nikolai Antsiferov Award: Russian majors, particularly students who plan to pursue a career in teaching. Special consideration is given to students who intend to study abroad.

16. Aleksey Mositenko Award: Students majoring in Russian.

17. Gui Cankun Memorial Chinese Award: Chinese minor with at least 2 years of Chinese, with the highest GPA.

18. Owen Hartley Faust Award: Students pursuing a major or minor in Modern Non-European Languages, and have completed two years in the language. (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew)

19. Dorothy and John Bernard Faust Award: Linguistics majors with at least two years in the major.

20. Jim Artman Award: Any Modern Languages major or minor.

21. Lowell and Frances Dunham Scholarship: Any Modern Languages major, undergraduate (with at least Sophomore standing) or graduate.

22. Olive Hawes Scholarship: Any Modern Languages major, undergraduate (with at least Junior standing) or graduate.

23. Mary Enod Williams Memorial Scholarship: Any Modern Languages major, undergraduate (with at least Junior standing) or graduate.

24. Hazel Brakebill Perreault Scholarship: Any Modern Languages major (with at least Sophomore standing).

25. McMillan Memorial Fund Scholarship: Any Modern Languages or Linguistics major with Junior standing.

26. Melvin B. Tolson, Jr. Scholarship: Any Modern Languages or Linguistics undergraduate major (NOTE: for this award, a 4.0 GPA overall is required).

 

All awards will be announced at the Kappa Gamma Epsilon and Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics Awards Reception to be held on April 16th, 2009.
